Felicja Blumental Festival at the National Library | Mar 30, 2025 | Jerusalem, Israel
Returning to one of our favorite festivals with a program of Bruch, Brahms, and the long forgotten Friedrich Gernsheim.
Time & Place
Mar 30, 2025, 8:00 PM
National Library , Kaplan/Rupin, Jerusalem
The Story
Our first performance at the National Library in Jerusalem with a program that pays tribute to Friedrich Gernsheim. A prolific 19th century composer, Gernsheim's music has been largely forgotten, in no small part due to the ban on the performance of Jewish music by the Nazi regime. His style was largely inspired by Bruch, Brahms and Schumann, and the program includes Bruch's Eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano as well as Brahms' monumental Clarinet Quintet. Excerpts from Gernsheim's letters, held at the National Library will be read from the stage.
