The Story
We are delighted to return to one of the more unique festivals in Israel with a program that pays tribute to Friedrich Gernsheim. A prolific 19th century composer, Gernsheim's music has been largely forgotten, in no small part due to the ban on the performance of Jewish music by the Nazi regime. His style was largely inspired by Bruch, Brahms and Schumann, and the program includes Bruch's Eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano as well as Brahms' monumental Clarinet Quintet. Excerpts from Gernsheim's letters, held at the National Library will be read from the stage.
