A trio of concerts at Studio Annette as part of a Fall Colors series, in which its members present a host of special small ensemble programs. Each of the Fall Colors Festival programs explores the unique palettes of three of Europe's cultural centers: France, Hungary, and Germany. The first program has a decidedly Parisian air, including a surprising arrangement of Claude Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, a humorous and exciting duet for flute and clarinet by Andre Jolivet, Gabriel Faure's Trio for Piano, Clarinet and Cello, and a quartet by the Israeli composer Mordecai Seter, whose style was shaped by his years in Paris. Central to the program are three popular Chansons, presented in an instrumental arrangement created by Yonatan Keret, and commissioned specifically for the occasion. The second concert shifts its focus to Hungary and to its two musical pillars in Bela Bartok and his Contrasts Trio, written for the King of Swing Benny Goodman and the legendary Hungarian violinist Joseph Szigeti, and Zoltan Kodaly and his breathtaking duo for violin and cello. Two lesser known figures are Erno Dohnanyi, represented here with his String Trio, which has become a genre favorite, and Andre Hajdu - the Hungarian born Israeli composer whose Six Sketches in a Sentimental Mood will be performed for the first time by the ensemble. Finally, we move to Germany and to three works dedicated to close friends. Johannes Brahms' second Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, which was one of the works inscribed to Richard Muhlfeld as part of a renewed create spirit that struck Brahms after hearing Muhlfeld's playing, Felix Mendelssohn's passionate first Piano Trio dedicated to Louis Spohr, and perhaps the 19th Century's ultimate poet - Robert Schumann and his Romances Op. 94.
